Talent Show

It has been the talent show this wek at ACE, and while the pupils in 3LA may not have made it all the way to the final, it was so rewarding to see the children in Year 3 share their talents and acomplishments. Witnessing the performance has galvanised some of them to practise more for the coming year. Hopefully next year, we will see the class performing like there’s no tomorrow!

Design and Technology – Delicious Technology

As one of our pupils had so eloquently put it… “Its not Design and Technology this term M. Arnett, it’s Delicious Technology!”

And indeed it is. We have been working on our own healthy snack design, including the branding and logo. The children are evidently natural-born entrepreneurs. They have really gotten their teeth into the topic (pun intended) and have been trying different fodstuffs.

Just have a look at how much fun they have been having.

Mrs. Stott’s Celebration

When Mrs. Stott was nominated for a Best Headteacher award, the school and the children came together in celebration of everything that Mrs. Stott has done for us at this school.

One of the things that we did as a class was that we performed a class debate where we debated whether one should thank a headteacher or not. Our class absolutely knocked it out of the park!

To see some of the pupils in my class speak so fluently and confidently was a wonderful experience.

Plants and Soil

During our plants topic, we had been looking at different types of soil while our class plant was growing. We were able to identify how the different soils affect plants in different ways and were also able to monitor the growth of our class plant and its progress.

Suffice to say, a lot of the students were pleased about the progress.

Update Post – Our Victorian Day

This is an update post considering there hasn’t been a post in a while. I intend to upload a lot of the big events or activities the children have had over the course of the next few days to catch up to where we are now.

As a start, we have Victorian Day. Reflecting back the children were really engrossed in this day, full invested and engaged with their learning. They all came dressed up fully and what a sight it was. So of the costumes were very convincing indeed.

It is wonderful to see when celebration events and focus days like this happen because it is a culmination of everything the children have been learning.

Guiding Through

This week we really had a vey special treat for the children. They were able to meet a real-life guide dog ambassador in the school. Everyone of the children loved seeing the well-behaved pup and the speaker was able to explain to the pupils exactly what kind of training the guide dogs go through.

Suffice to say, they couldn’t wait to stroke this canine companion!

Natural Art

Welcome back everyone! And what a welcome back it has been. The children have really been enjoying their first week back after the Easter holidays, especially now that the nicer weather has been coming in.

Taking advantage of this, we have been making natural art with natural materials outside and just look at some of the creations!

Nowruz Mubarak!

This week, we have been celebrating Persian New Year in the school. This is a fascinating and rich cultural celebration dating back over 3000 years to ancient Persia in Iran and is celebrated by many cultures and countries.

The children learned all about it in school today, they saw our lovely Haftsin display and were able to make some lovely Hyacinth cards to celebrate the new year (known as ‘Sombol’ in Farsi).

As they are still drying, the children will be able to take home their lovely creations home on Monday.

World Book Day

It has been World Book Day this week and what a day it was! The children absolutely loved the day, particularly enjoying each others costumes, reading some books and a visit from Gandalf the Grey.

As you have heard so much about World Book Day already, from ourselves and your little ones, I thought it best to simply share some of the pictures with you and for you to see how much they enjoyed themselves.

Leminkainen

Today in our class, we looked at the famous finnish story of ‘Leminkainen’ which was led by the absolutely fantastic storyteller, Matthew Belwood. The children engaged in drama today, storytelling, used their listening skills and even made shadow puppets to put on a show.

Matthew led the children through a whole story world and journey and had the children act out various parts. I have uploaded several pictures to the blog now for your pleasure so you can see exactly what your pupils have been up to today.

This unfortunately led on quite a bit and meant that PE was left for today (perhaps best given the weather!). I will have the pupils come in their PE kit later on this week for their PE lesson. I will send out a parentmail about it later.
