Permeable rocks and a volcanic suprise

We have been continuing to be scientists by studying how some rocks are permeable and some are permeable. They first learned the distinction between permeable and porous and then figured out the difference between permeable and impermeable.

We conducted an experiment where the children submerged rocks in glasses of water and checked for air bubbles. If there were any bubbles then they would be permeable and if there were none then it would be impermeable.

After this, we learned about the difference between igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock. As a special suprise, I managed to get out some valuable rocks from my collection. This being a selection of rocks that were spurted out during an eruption of Mount Vesuvius back in 1944!
